Chemical Peels are used to improve the appearance of mild scars, certain types of acne, reduce age spots, freckles and melasma. They are most effective on fair skinned patients. Chemical peels are used to improve the appearance of the skin. A chemical solution (glycolic acid, salicylic acid) is applied to the skin which makes it “blister” and eventually peel off. The new skin is smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin. Peeling and redness usually lasts for 3-7 days after the procedure.
TCA (tricholoroacetic acid) peels are great for all skin types to reduce age spots, hyperpigmentation (including melasma), soften lines and wrinkles, improve acne conditions and reduce acne scars. TCA peels can also stimulate collagen production for firmer, more youthful skin. Regular TCA peels (2-4 per year) along with a proper home regimen can reduce sun damage. Redness and peeling can last up to a week.
Microdermabrasion uses a minimally abrasive instrument to gently sand your skin, removing the thicker outer layer. It is good for both dark and light skinned patients and can improve age spots, hyperpigmentation, blackhead and acne, reduce or eliminate large pores, reduce fine lines and wrinkles and exfoliate your skin. Microdermabrasion also stimulates collagen production which lessens fine lines and wrinkles and creates a more youthful appearance. Multiple treatments may be necessary for the desired effect. Slight redness may be experienced following the procedure.
Microneedling is a procedure that uses small needles to prick the skin. The purpose of this procedure is to stimulate collagen produce and produce firm, brighter looking skin. It is used on the face to treat wrinkles, large pores, scars and wrinkles. Minor redness and irritation may be experienced, but there is no down time. Several session may be needed for optimal results.
Lumeca Intensed Pulse Light Laser (IPL)
Lumeca delivers high intensity pulses of broadband light to the deeper levels of the skin (dermis) and leaves the superficial aspect of the skin (epidermis) untouched. The IPL laser can target vascular lesion (e.g spider veins) as well as pigmented areas such as melasma and age spots. The thermal effect of the IPL also causes production of collagen leading to improvement in wrinkles and a more youthful appearance. Four -six treatments spaced approximately six weeks apart may be needed to see the desired effects. There may be transient redness after the treatment, but the benefit is immediate return to normal activity. A consultation with our IPL specialist will determine treatment length and cost.
